Frontcountry camping refers to the campsites found along the road where you can drive with your car or RV.
Backcountry camping refers to those sites that can only be reached by hiking, horseback riding, or boating.
All camping requires a reservation, with most taking advance reservations and others first-come, first served. Overnight camping of any type (tent, vehicle, or RV) outside designated campgrounds is not permitted. You will find contact information and general information about both types of camping on the respective links listed below. There are maps detailing the locations of all campsites in Yellowstone and the fees pertaining thereto. Since horse packing in the Yellowstone backcountry is what we do, the backcountry maps are the most detailed. These maps detail all of the trails and campsites in the Park and provide information about restrictions.
