Yellowstone Backcountry Camping

Camping in the backcountry is arguably the best way to experience Yellowstone, but it requires planning and reservations. If you join us on a pack trip, we will do all of the planning for you--all you do is show up. If you are interested in planning your own trip or exploring the options, we provide the following maps and information.

Below is a map that details all of the trails in Yellowstone. For details about each of the trails, we recommend Yellowstone Trails: A Hiking Guide by Mark Marschall. It is really the bible of Yellowstone trails. We also recommend Trails Illustrated maps by National Geographic.

All campsites require advanced reservations, and these can be made for $20.00 at the Yellowstone Backcountry Office. They will not make reservations over the phone. All reservations are either made in person or by mail. To make your reservations by mail, download the following trip planner.
